Thanksgiving

By far my (Bryan’s at least) favorite time of the year is Thanksgiving. It must be a combination of being with family, playing games, football, lots of good food, and a time to reflect upon all that we have that lands Thanksgiving at the top of my list. This year was the 2nd year of what seems to be our family tradition, hosted by us at our house. My parents drove down from Michigan for 3 days and they enjoyed being with Brooklyn as much as she enjoyed all the attention.

The day before Thanksgiving was Brooklyn’s “Almost 1 year” birthday. Because Grandpa and Grandma Kunz wouldn’t be around for the actual Dec. 22nd birthday a special one was planned with them. They brought down presents and a little cake for Brooklyn, and as you can see, Brooklyn was thoroughly impressed with both the cake and her first birthday present. She knew exactly what to do with the cake and probably would have eaten the entire thing if we would have let her.

Thanksgiving morning I arose early to go play football for almost 3 hours. The weather was perfect Thanksgiving football weather (cloudy, wet, slightly chilly) and I was in pain for only a week after. J Around noon is when the preparations started for the dinner. Grandpa babysat while the rest were busy getting the food ready. After last year’s turkey success, I was put in charge of the turkey again this year. My second turkey ever (and first brining experience) was successful yet again. With 2 winning turkeys under my belt, I am now the official turkey chef in the Kunz family. I enjoy doing it but still have fond memories of years past being able to lounge on the couch watching football while others did the cooking. Those days appear to be gone for a while.

A Thanksgiving post would be incomplete without thanking Jeff and Mary for driving down and participating in our family Thanksgiving. We love seeing you guys, and we know Brooklyn does too!
